ABOUT THE ATHLETE

Julie Royer: I started training in 2010 at the age of 29 because I was challenged to compete. I had always been active, but I had never practiced any particular sport. In November 2011, I participated in my first fitness competition, where I won first place in my category. That's when I truly started to love the sport, which helped me to know myself and to further blossom. I continued the competitions one after the other without stopping. Regional, Provincial, 5x National and even 4x the prestigious Arnold International Classic Championship. Nothing was easy, on the contrary I encountered countless obstacles, made tremendous sacrifices and I lived all kinds of emotions. But I always kept focus on my main objectives: learn & evolve each day. I have never stopped training since I started. I continue to push the limits of my body every day and I keep evolving, learning and now teaching the sport. I have been a certified coach since 2013.

Julie: I would say, without a doubt, the Estro Control. It is the most effective formula to detoxify and control the hormonal roller coaster of a woman. The Kik that I use for my pre-workout to surpass myself in every activity or physical training. Finally, the Mind Mag that I give to my autistic son, which helps him incredibly with his anxiety and concentration.

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ANOTHER CAREER OR SPORT WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Julie: I am currently pregnant with my third child and I have given myself the challenge of preparing for 3 different disciplines to do a triathlon a few months after my delivery. By the way, swimming, running, and biking are my greatest weaknesses.
Question 5
WHAT OR WHO MADE YOU WANT TO PURSUE AN ACTIVE AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?
Julie: To add years to my life and give life to my years.

Physical activity is above all a golden opportunity to have fun. Take advantage of these special moments to relax, get off work, change your mind and mood. Physical activity is good for the body and the head, the benefits of an active lifestyle are numerous. Regular physical activity not only improves our quality of life on a daily basis but increase our life expectancy by reducing the risk of chronic disease. Physical activity means having greater vitality, better fitness, better mental well-being, better stress management skills, better self-esteem. Physical activity helps to prevent and better control certain risk factors for heart disease, blood cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension, improves muscle and bone health, improves sleep and weight control.

Question 6
WHEN IT COMES TO OUR PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT FLAVOURS, WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER?

Vanilla, Chocolate, Raspberry or Salted Caramel?

Julie: They all taste good, but the one I prefer is vanilla for its versatility. It can be mixed with other foods & easily combined with other flavors.

Question 7
WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON THE USE OF ILLEGAL OR UNCONTROLLED DRUGS IN CERTAIN SPORTS SUCH AS THE FITNESS WORLD?
Julie: I am against it. The purpose of this sport is to bring the body to its best physical condition. I think a real fitness athlete is a person who does not cheat and has not gone through the ease of substances to achieve his ends.
Question 8
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Julie: My age lol! I would have liked to start doing sports much earlier in my life.

Question 9
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORTS HERO?

Julie: My boyfriend, who was a Canadian cycling champion at the age of 17, naturally, while going to school and working. He has all my respect for having achieved this feat.

Question 10
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT COMPETING?

Julie: The preparation, the process of getting to the competition. It is during that specific period of time that we discover ourselves, that we surpass ourselves and we blossom. The result does not matter because most of the athletes have already won.

Question 11
What is your favorite song to listen to prior to competing?

Julie: “Shine bright like a diamond” by Rihanna, I find it inspiring and motivating.

Question 12
IF YOU HAD SUPERPOWERS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SUPERHERO NAME?

Julie: My power would be super empathy: that I could feel the emotions of people with a simple touch and alter them as they please. My super hero name would be ''To-Feel‘’.

Question 13
WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE OR FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL?

Julie: Definitely sushi & sake

Question 14
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH GOALS FOR THIS YEAR?

Julie: For 2018, I want to quickly recover physically from my delivery and to be able to breastfeed my baby, thanks to the ATP products that I have taken since the beginning of my pregnancy. Multivitamin TD, Vitamin D3 & Omega-3 triglyceride (apple flavored).

Question 15
As a mother of three, how do you manage to balance your life as a mommy and fitness athlete?

Julie: I believe that everything starts with being organized and especially with finding balance between the mother, the entrepreneur and the athlete. The important thing is never to forget oneself, mothers tend to put everything before them. It is important to allow small moments just for oneself and all spheres of our life will be benefited.

Question 16
We admire your efforts and dedication for your child who lives with autism. What do you think of the misconceptions about this condition and what should be done to raise awareness?

Julie: This is a very sensitive topic because many people already have preconceived ideas about this condition. Most of them are people who have never lived with or raised an autistic child, which is why it makes me cringe when someone judges or gives his opinion about a child or about how parents educate their children without knowing. Many myths or assumptions have been given over time including genetic factors, differences in biological functioning and brain development, environmental factors, viral infections, deficiencies of the immune system, vaccines etc.

What is important to understand is that communication and social interactions are a challenge for these children, teens, and adults who stand out from their peers by their bizarre behaviors, inflexibility or special interests. The number of children and adults with ASD is constantly increasing. It is now the most common neurological disorder in children. While the prevalence rate was 4/10 000 around 1950, it is currently 99/10 000 for the entire population of Quebec (Canada). The ratio by gender is 5 boys for 1 girl. People with ASD perceive the world differently. The notion of difference does not refer here to a lack or a difficulty, but to a distinct way of thinking and acting, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Information processing, sensory and motor therapy, communication, social relationships, anxiety, interests, emotion management, nutrition, sleep, etc. But basically, they are all human beings like everyone else, they need essentially love, affection, and understanding.

Question 17
WHY ATP LAB?

Julie: ATP is a company from Quebec that continues to evolve and adapt to the needs and reality of its customers. Their products are on the cutting edge of the latest studies and research. To try them is to adopt them, because their products really work.

Question 18
IN A FEW WORDS, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FANS WHO SEEK A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?

Julie: BALANCE is the key, no matter your beliefs or values, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, ketogenic, paleo, Mediterranean, etc. Do what you think is best for you, but do not fall into extremes. Stay balanced and the process will be easier and faster. It is important to allow yourself to have little surprises from time to time, otherwise the process will become heavy and you risk giving up or getting discouraged over time. We can enjoy everything in life, just a small change in the choice of ingredients can sometime make all the difference.
